What?
HOPE worldwide is partnering with Model Towns Charitable organization. They support Fijians out of material poverty through the provision of cyclone-safe housing and integration into a functional community leading to formal sector jobs, improved health, care for the environment, and children attending school. This program has been recognized globally as a model for poverty reduction and community development. Over the last 25 years, 1,000 homes have been built across Fiji.
Participants will build three homes for the Koroipita community who are currently living in a squatter settlement and live below the poverty line. They will also plant gardens to support sustainable livelihoods and engage in educational activities with the children who are enrolled in the community kindergarten.
Fiji is known as a tourist destination, but the islands have a lot of material poverty, and the situation has only worsened due to the pandemic since the country relies heavily on tourism.
Residents of the Koroipita community.
