Hope Worldwide. Bringing Hope. Changing Lives.

Houston HYC

Houston is known as one of the most diverse places in America, with more than 145 different languages spoken, and one of the best culinary scenes in the country. The food is rich in culture, and culture is rich in Houston. Unfortunately, in August of 2017, Hurricane Harvey devastated much of the city leaving many businesses and homes underwater. Although it has been over a year, many are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey. There are many families that are still displaced from their homes, children with fears of rising waters, and parents struggling to get by. The Houston community has come together to bring healing, but the healing is not complete.

In your two weeks stay at the Houston HOPE Youth Corps you will provide the love of Christ to a group of children who were highly affected by Hurricane Harvey. You will provide normalcy, resiliency, and a lot of fun through an art and psycho-social based curriculum. Our curriculum is based on theatre arts, visual arts, champions of character through sports, and What is Great About You creative writing. The goal is to help children process emotions, losses, struggles, build confidence, and return to a normal life after Harvey. You will be working on some large-scale projects with the children that will require prep work, however, where there is a culture of work, there is also a culture of leisure. Aside from working with an amazing diverse group of children, your two weeks stay would not be complete without a visit to Galveston Beach for reflection, fun, and a late-night bonfire. Come help keep Houston STRONG.
