Response & Recovery Efforts
HOPE worldwide has been involved in regionalized disaster response initiatives for over a decade, with the first large-scale response coming in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. HOPE worldwide provided on-the-ground support in India, Thailand and Indonesia. Since that time, disaster response teams have assisted with a number of major natural catastrophes, including Hurricane Katrina which hit the Gulf Coast of the United States in 2005, the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013, the deadly earthquake in Nepal in 2015 and the tragic earthquakes in both Ecuador and Japan in early 2016. HOPE worldwide is also committed to offering aid to victims of man-made disasters such as 2011’s outbreak of violence in the capital city of the Ivory Coast and the current Syrian refugee crisis. In all cases, the needs and capacity of the local communities are prioritized.

The Difference between Life and Death

After a disaster strikes, basic necessities such as food, drinking water and personal hygiene supplies are often unavailable. We provide these lifesaving supplies to meet the most urgent needs. We also provide water filtration systems which can supply drinking water to those without.  

Compassionate Medical Care

Healthcare is essential in the days following a disaster. HOPE worldwide partners with organizations to help organize medical teams, as well as our own volunteers, to reach those without access to medical care.

Providing Safe Places

Families displaced from their homes are at greater risk from exposure to the elements and the illness and disease that often ensues. HOPE worldwide makes available the supplies needed for a family to stay safe and warm in the midst of disaster. Tarps, tents or temporary shelters give families a place to live until their home is repaired or rebuilt. In places like the Philippines and Haiti, HOPE worldwide has been integral to helping families rebuild their homes and communities.
