What?
Join us for an incredible time of service at the HOPEww school and vocational training center in Kathmandu! The Asha (HOPE) school has been in existence for 27 years and has had a sustainable impact on the community. We have hosted 10 Volunteer Corps in Kathmandu over the last six years. Nepal is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, in the midst of the Himalayas. We will also spend a couple of days in Chaimale, a village two hours outside of Kathmandu, where HOPEww opened a second Center of HOPE.
The volunteers will teach the students of the elementary school, as well as the young adults who learn computer skills at the vocational training centers. We will also have a medical team work in partnership with local medical providers. In the village of Chaimale we will train the community in the use of water filters provided by our partner Wine To Water.
Nepal is a country of amazing natural beauty, but the needs are many, especially after the pandemic. The main source of income for many Nepalese comes from tourism. Most of the young people leave the country to work abroad due to the lack of local opportunities. The situation is even more dire after the pandemic.
Service to school students and their families, as well as the local community.
AUDIENCE: All generations and demographics. Minimum age of 17 for U.S. volunteers, and 15 for non-U.S. volunteers. U.S. volunteers aged 15 and 16 will need a chaperone who is over the age of 21. Anyone below the age of 15 will need a parent to accompany them.
Anyone can serve on this program; however, we are especially interested in having a professional group, including a medical team and an education team. Therefore, anyone in the medical or health field, or in the teaching professions will be very helpful. Notice that this trip is shorter than most, as we know that medical staff cannot always take a lot of time off.
NOTE: The participants will have the option of going on a trek either before or after the Corps. The trek will not be part of the program but can be arranged by one of the local brothers.
