New Jersey will host its 2nd HOPE Youth Corps in 2025! During this HYC, participants will serve at a summer day camp for inner city children. The camp is designed to help young people become more confident in their abilities, improve their self-esteem, and develop greater autonomy and leadership qualities.
Activities include arts and crafts, aquatics, biking, strategy games, computer education, dance, drama, nature and science projects, athletics, and literacy. The camp also has a percussion orchestra, recording studio, and an agility course. The camp environment is both motivational and fun!
During this HYC, we will serve as mentors at the camp, implementing the following goals:
1.Stimulate literacy: This goal involves encouraging young people to develop their reading and writing skills. It could include activities such as reading books, engaging in discussions about literature, and practicing writing.
2. Build confidence: This objective aims to boost self-esteem and belief in one's abilities. Activities that can help achieve this goal may involve public speaking, group projects, and providing opportunities for students to showcase their talents or accomplishments.
3. Build self-awareness: Fostering self-awareness helps young people understand themselves better, including their emotions, strengths, weaknesses, and personal goals. Activities such as journaling, reflection exercises, and self-assessment tools can aid in this process.
