HOPE worldwide Bay Area Chapter Volunteer Spotlight: Brenda Nassaka

Q: What motivated you to want to be a part of the chapter?

A: When my friend and chapter leader, Lynne O’Hara, reached out for volunteers sometime in late 2021, I responded to the call. That led me to my first ever opportunity to join the other HOPEww BAC volunteers and make breakfast for our friends in the SF Tenderloin community in partnership with City Hope. Since then, I always look forward to that monthly breakfast.

Q: How have you found serving during the pandemic?

A: Had it not been for the pandemic, I don’t think this opportunity would have crossed my radar. That said, as long as I have a mask and gloves on, it’s a normal Saturday in the neighborhood, and I'm ready to serve!

Q: What has been your experience serving with City Hope SF?

A: Is it ok to say that I’m in awe? Because that’s exactly how I feel every time I’m serving with City Hope SF. I’ve never seen a community so passionate in providing a service that goes above and beyond. Not only is everyone treated with respect from the point they walk into the building, but there are so many resources available to meet most every need. I like how the kitchen, cafe, and bathrooms are all outfitted with the best equipment. I’m so grateful to serve with HOPEww BAC and City Hope.

Q: Are there any other HWWBAC projects you’ve helped with?

A: Yes, I’ve served on a dinner distribution.
