to communities in Indonesia

PRESS RELEASE:

Citi Foundation has provided a generous grant of $150,000 to HOPE worldwide for its COVID-19 relief efforts. These funds will be used in Indonesia to support the ongoing needs in the community from the current pandemic. HOPE worldwide Indonesia will focus on several areas, including distributing food, PPE, mobile hand-washing units and providing ongoing community outreach.

Indonesia has 25 million people living in poverty and 66 million within the poverty-vulnerable stage. With COVID-19, these vulnerable populations will be impacted the most. There are 2,813 hospitals in all Indonesia with 9,993 community health clinics; however, they lack capacity in handling COVID-19. Like many countries around the world, Indonesia has a large number of confirmed cases and deaths. Doctors and healthcare workers are also being negatively impacted due to the pandemic with illness and lack of supplies. It’s important that we all work together now more than ever.

HOPE worldwide is extremely grateful for our partnership with the Citi Foundation. The world is facing an unprecedented crisis, and we need to pull all of our resources together to help those in need. As David Malutinok, President of HOPE worldwide , said, “We are very thankful for this generous grant. Citi Foundation is an amazing organization whose work improves the lives of people in low-income communities around the world. It’s an honor to work with them. ”

Citi Foundation and HOPE worldwide understand the urgency to prevent the infection amongst the general public through promoting hand washing and hygienic living, while also protecting the health workers with personal protective equipment. In addition, the global economy is approaching depression, as many are forced to work from home while companies are forced to lay off their employees due to lockdown of operations. The poor and middle class will be affected economically, as they need extra support with food to sustain the economic storm. Lily Ham, HOPEww Indonesia Country Director, lives in Indonesia and has seen the negative effects COVID-19 is having on people in the community. The support from Citi Foundation has been amazing, “ says Lily Ham. “These funds make a big difference providing aid in 40 communities. It’s strong partnerships like this that will help us continue our fight against COVID-19.”

The funds received from Citi Foundation are currently being used by HOPE worldwide Indonesia to purchase and distribute the following:

  • 3,000 food and nutrition packets that will support 1,000 families
  • 1,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) packages for health workers in hospitals and local health centers in Jakarta, Tangerang Selatan, Semarang, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan dan Denpasar
  • 8 Mobile Hand-washing units to be deployed in Jakarta, Tangerang Selatan, Semarang, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan dan Denpasar that will help 100,000 people in 10 weeks

Citi Indonesia's CEO Batara Sianturi said, "As part of Citi’s active participation, we are collaborating with HOPE worldwide Indonesia to carry out this philanthropic initiative, to help frontline health workers and people who are directly impacted by this pandemic, as well as to support the local government’s effort to advocate clean and healthy living.”

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a global impact, HOPE worldwide has been actively responding to this crisis by providing food, medical supplies, educating families and on-going support for those negatively impacted by the worldwide pandemic. We are extremely grateful for our partnership with the Citi Foundation and their generous donation. HOPE worldwide and the Citi Foundation will continue to work together to bring hope and love to people in need.
