Images of the damage and response after Hurricane Beryl
Thank you for supporting our disaster response efforts. The devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl turned many lives upside down across multiple islands, including St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and did considerable damage in Texas and the Gulf Coast as well.
Below is an update on the ongoing efforts to bring relief and aid to those who lost their homes and were displaced by the Category 5 Hurricane.
HOPE worldwide Trinidad and Tobago Mobilizes Rapid Relief Effort with Local Partnership
In the wake of Hurricane Beryl's devastating impact, HOPE worldwide and our partners in Trinidad and Tobago exemplified resilience and rapid response, partnering with a local organization to immediately deliver more crucial aid to those most in need.
HOPEww has been working all along the path of Hurricane Beryl where we have capacity to directly assess needs. Early on, HOPEww Trinidad and Tobago began assisting in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2024, ITNAC's Brent Hector alerted HOPEww of the dire need for hygiene packages in shelters across Carriacou and Union Island. The hurricane had forced many residents to remain in shelters indefinitely, straining resources and leaving many without essential hygiene items.
Within a day of receiving the call, The HOPEww team in Trinidad and Tobago had organized a group of volunteers to mobilize and tackle the urgent need. On August 6th, they successfully packed dozens of hampers filled with sanitary pads, wipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, masks, and other hygiene essentials. These efforts not only provided much-needed supplies but also demonstrated the power of community solidarity and swift action in the face of disaster.
Kirtia Arthur, HOPE worldwide's Volunteer Coordinator in Trinidad and Tobago, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the volunteers' dedication. She highlighted the support from even non-members who joined in to assist and who played vital roles in the efficient packing and delivery of the hygiene packages. Their contributions were instrumental in ensuring that the team could respond in record time and demonstrated a true example of the power of the community coming together.
HOPEww is committed to continuing to support communities affected by Hurricane Beryl and who are in need of recovery as long as it is needed. We are grateful to be able to fulfill the role of relief aid agency for other partners in the region.
The swift and effective response of the HOPEww global disaster network serves as a testament to the power of community and the profound impact of timely action. The efforts of partners and volunteers continue to inspire hope and provide essential support to those affected by natural disasters, reinforcing the belief that together, we can make a difference.
In the words of Kirtia Arthur: "Let us continue praying for the healing, comfort, and encouragement of all who have suffered loss. We are extremely grateful to all who showed up on such short notice."
