After July 29, 2018 earthquake measured at 6.4 Richter scale; a bigger 7.0 Richter scale rocked the island on Aug 5th, exactly 7 days later.

So far, 82 people have been reported to have lost their lives as relief teams rushed to help. This strong and devastating impact are feared to kill more and affect larger areas.

HOPE worldwide arrived in affected areas 24 hrs after the July 29 earthquake to distribute emergency shelters. Right now, teams are mobilized to help more. From rapid assessment, we aim to provide emergency shelters and comfort kits for 2,000 families, and to open several children centers to provide play therapy, counseling, health services, etc; starting from a village in Loloan, North Lombok.

In the early morning of Sunday July 29th, 2018, a 6.4 Richter Scale Earthquake rocked northern part of Lombok Island, Indonesia.

16 persons reported dead so far, while 355 injured, at least 1,000 houses damaged/destroyed, and forced 5,141 persons evacuated their homes (BNPB)

Mount Rinjani climbers that were stuck in the slopes due to risks of aftershocks has been assisted by the special forces and two helicopters. From HOPE worldwide field visit, ambulances were deployed to evacuate the climbers. Then, they were taken to a quick analysis to determine urgency or care needed.

HOPE worldwide Indonesia's disaster relief team has arrived the island within 24 hours to bring emergency tents for the affected families. The team is scaling the villages to assess the situation and distribute family tents. From the General Hospital in Selong, east Lombok, the patients cared were reported to be around 70 patients. 7 of which needing more sophisticated care were referred to the General Hospital in Mataram City, Lombok's capital. 14 cases are still cared in Selong General Hospital for fracture traumas.

There is also a field hospital in Sambelia sub-district by the Indonesian Military. Some NGOs are also providing health care.

Needs:
* From our field assessment, the traped climbers are still a priority for the rescue operation.
* Health services seems to be well managed
* As for housing, most victims stays within their houses or it's remains. There are a few camps sites organized by BNPB/local government or by the community themselves.
* The need will be quick recovery and evaluation of houses's structure strengths. Most families are still planning to sleep outside on mats or anything they could find. Emergency shelters in the form of tarpaulins are probably the best solution due to its flexibility of use.
* Food security seems to be under control.

The Relief team is going to continue assess the remaining villages on July 31st.

Thank you for the supports !
