Tips to Address Food Insecurity in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
HOPEww • January 8, 2021

In honor of MLK Day and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of justice and anti-poverty work, HOPE worldwide
is inviting you to help address food insecurity in your communities.
Food Insecurity:
a household's inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active and healthy life.
According to the United Nations, a great number of people experienced food insecurity across the globe due to COVID-19, doubling from 135 million in 2019 to 265 million in 2020.
With so many around the world hurting, we compiled a list of tips you can use to respectfully provide assistance to those needing it the most. For those who don’t already have plans on this national day of service, we want to invite you to volunteer to help address food insecurity in your community.
- Better Together: Support a local organization addressing food insecurity in your community. Contact a local food bank or pantry to find out what volunteer support they need.
- Protect Others’ Dignity: Always seek to protect the dignity of your neighbors. If possible, look to build mutually-beneficial relationships with individuals in your community.
- Safety First: Remember to follow local COVID-19 safety ordinances, including facial coverings and social distancing.
