"My Volunteer Corps to Alaska was a turning point in my life"

“Thanks to the grace of God and my Volunteer Corps, I am proud to say that I am now a disciple of Christ Jesus!”

Andrew Chen talks about how HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps to Alaska last July was a turning point in his life.
"I created amazing friendships and fell in love with God.
Being in the raw Alaskan area, I was able to get away from the LA lights and see the beauty of God’s creation in nature. The view of Mount Denali was beautiful, and the place we stayed at really helped me be in awe of the wonder of the Lord Almighty.
Another thing that I loved about the HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps was the unbreakable friendships that we created. As I went with some of my friends from California, I grew closer with them and learned things about them I never knew, and I also created friendships with teens across the country! Throughout the two weeks we stayed in Alaska, we encouraged one another to serve, gave advice when we struggled, and comforted when we didn’t feel the best. We have a group chat that we still use to this day!
The trip also challenged me to be vulnerable towards others, and to seek advice instead of relying on my own understanding, which is crucial in getting closer with God. And thanks to the grace of God and my HVC I am proud to say that I am now a disciple of Christ Jesus! Both I and another participant of the same HVC (Madison Shirk) got baptized on the same day! Not to mention my boy Josh and my girl Brenna (both participants as well) who also got baptized after our HVC trip! Ultimately, this HVC trip impacted my life in so many ways, as well as that of others who came along! If you are considering applying for one, GO FOR IT! Your future you will thank you."
We have two Volunteer Corps in Alaska this coming June and July. For more information and to sign up: https://www.hopeww.org/alaskahvc2019
