HOPE worldwide Hong Kong provides help and care to low-income families and the elderly, many of whom must wear masks and pay special attention to hygiene and sanitation in this densely populated city of over 7 million. With the skyrocketing prices of protective gear, many people cannot afford what they need to safeguard themselves and their families from the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
We at HOPE worldwide partner with corporate donors to secure protective and hygienic supplies for these vulnerable members of the population. Recently, volunteers assembled to pack masks and other supplies in bags and went to homes to distribute them. They gave out 7,600 masks,1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer and several gallons of bleach to facilitate leaving the house when needed and completing daily tasks to maintain a safe home environment. Since people are reluctant to leave the house for fear of infection, volunteers deliver much-needed protective materials as well as groceries. Volunteers have reached out to and served 600 of Hong Kong’s elderly citizens and 100 financially challenged families. These people are grateful for the offer of help, comfort and human connection they receive from our volunteers despite the quarantine during this stressful time.
