At the beginning of March, HOPE worldwide increased efforts in support of vulnerable people such as low-income families with young children, seniors living alone, and citizens confined to their homes. When the confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 106, supplies of protective equipment such as masks and sanitizer began to run low. In response, volunteers quickly mobilized, going door-to-door and distributing care packages of surgical masks and disinfectants to 150 households. Volunteers were able to connect with people who could not interact with the outside world, reassuring them they were not alone and encouraging them to continue with good personal hygiene practices.
In celebration of Singapore’s Flag Day, the whole Singapore Christian Church and HOPE worldwide raised funds to provide support in the fight against the virus. To reduce face-to-face interactions and to protect our citizens, volunteers raised funds using WhatsApp and other online payment methods such as PayNow where friends and family members could donate directly to a charity’s account. Despite the very tense climate created by the pandemic, people still generously gave to our efforts, leading to the collection of over $85,000. The funds collected will support key initiatives, such as Hope for Seniors, Hope for Youth, Hope for Families and Hope for You (a program of HOPE worldwide ).
